I agree with the above answers but you can also explore the trails, both east and west of Brakey Rd. You can even take a trail up to the private property line north of Brakey Rd. and above the shooting range. Some of those trails are pretty steep and not as well maintained as the main trail. When you get to Brakey Rd., make sure to follow the road back to the Cross for a beautiful panoramic view of the city and the avenue area.
Q:
Can you take your puppy if they are in a carrier?
A:
Yes, you can take your dog. All I have seen have been on a leash. I would think a carrier would be fine. Don't forget to take a clean up bag. That's just common courtesy.
