Born Terry Gene Bollea and raised in Florida, Hogan found fame in the 1980s after triumphing over Iron Sheik to become the World Wrestling Federation’s heavyweight winner. The win sparked a phenomenon in the wrestling world known as “Hulkmania,” which he leveraged into a career outside of the sport through which he first rose to prominence.

Hulk Hogan, the pro wrestler who became a worldwide pop culture icon, helped take down Gawker and campaigned for President Trump, has died. He was 71.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was WWE’s baby-faced crowd favorite when he met the villainous Hogan at WrestleMania in an “Icon vs. Icon” match in WrestleMania in 2002. One problem, the Toronto crowd decided to back Hogan.
