A hunter fatally shot a Baton Rouge man who was also hunting in the Sandy Hollow Wildlife Management area near Kentwood on Saturday, officials said. Roberto Garcia, 61, was hit around 8:45 a.m. with a .45-caliber muzzleloader and died before first responders could arrive, the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said in a news release.

The coroner was called to a shooting scene in Baton Rouge Thursday afternoon. The shots were fired in the 4900 block of South Sherwood Forest, emergency officials said. The victim’s identity nor what led up to the shooting has been released at this time.

On Nov. 16, deputies with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office were responding to a reported shooting in the 11700 block of Nicholson Drive. Upon arrival, deputies found James dead in the hallway near the stairs on the third floor.

Derek Lee, 48, was shot just before 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21 near a house in the 1100 block of N. 36th Street. After police arrived, Lee was immediately transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, according to a news release from Baton Rouge Police Department.
