Evacuation area expanded as chemical fire reignites in Georgia, authorities say
ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — The evacuation zone for a chemical fire in Rockdale County is being expanded after flames reignited on Sunday afternoon. Deputies say multiple roads in Rockdale County are now closed due to the fire at the BioLab facility on Old Covington Highway.
Fire at Georgia chemical facility prompts evacuations, shelter-in-place order
The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency has issued a shelter-in-place order on behalf of the Rockdale County Emergency Management Agency for residents in the north half of Rockdale County, above Sigman Road. Those residents should remain indoors with the windows and doors closed, and should turn off their air conditioners.
