Zach LaVine scored a season-high 36 points and the Chicago Bulls used a fourth-quarter flurry to hold off the Boston Celtics 117-108 on Thursday night in the opener of a home-and-home set.

The Bulls were led by two-time All-Star guard Zach LaVine with 36 points on 11-19 shooting from the field and 6-11 from deep. Each Bulls starter was in double figures, and star big man Nikola Vucevic posted a 16-point, 14-rebound double-double, shooting 7-9 from the field.

Zach LaVine, after scoring a season-high to knock off the defending champs: “You go out and play like we did tonight, we can beat anybody; we’re a resilient group.”

On the same night that coach Billy Donovan dismissed the idea that the Bulls were looking to lose games on purpose or worry about keeping draft picks, he then watched his team go out and beat the defending champions.
