California’s Supreme Court has struck down the state GOP’s attempt to delay Governor Gavin Newsom’s redistricting plan, clearing the runway for the measure to reach the November referendum vote. The GOP lawmakers who filed the challenge argued that Newsom had moved forward too quickly, and violated the state’s independent redistricting commission.

California lawmakers are expected to pass a map Thursday to create five new winnable Democratic seats. However, that will still need approval from California voters.

The California Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected an effort by Republican legislators to delay Democrats from gerrymandering the state's congressional districts. The justices said the legal challenge, filed earlier this week, "failed to meet their burden of establishing a basis for relief at this time under" the California Constitution.

According to the Campaign Legal Center, Johnson’s campaign committee began paying $2,500 a month to Issa this past March for a Washington, D.C., property he uses as a residence.
