Delphi’s police chief tendered his resignation Thursday night amid scrutiny regarding his actions surrounding a 2024 drug case. A local judge had accused Chief Nate LaMar of being dishonest while trying to justify a warrantless car search during a drug arrest.

Delphi Police Chief Nate Lamar resigned Thursday after being accused of an making an improper arrest that led to charges being dropped by a judge. During the stop that happened in early 2024, Lamar had pulled over a driver for having a blue license plate light instead of a white one.

The Delphi police chief resigned after being accused of lying under oath during a bench trial.  According to court documents, Carroll County Special Judge Troy Hawkins  accused Chief Nate LaMar of the Delphi City Police Department of lying while trying to justify a car search without a warrant during a drug arrest in 2024.

Delphi Mayor Kamron Yates said the search for a new police chief has begun after the resignation of Nate LaMar.
