Hurricane Erin’s drive-by impacts are forecast to generate multiple rounds of flooding in New Jersey beach towns from Sandy Hook to Cape May Point, and tropical storm warnings were in effect for the nearshore waters.
On Sunday at 2 p.m. a coastal flood watch was issued by the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC valid from Tuesday noon until Friday 8 a.m. The watch is for East Carteret, Northern Outer Banks, Ocracoke Island and Hatteras Island.
On Wednesday at 2:35 a.m. an updated coastal flood advisory was released by the NWS Wilmington NC valid between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. for Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover.
An £8.3m scheme has been completed which has created a network of ponds to protect homes and businesses in an area of Hull prone to flooding. The project in Derringham mimics natural drainage by using the ponds, known as aquagreens, to store water in times of heavy rainfall.
