The Republican-led House voted Wednesday to give final passage to the Laken Riley Act, a strict immigration detention measure named for a 22-year-old Georgia nursing school student who was murdered last year by an undocumented immigrant.

The bill sponsored by Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., that requires immigration authorities to detain undocumented migrants that commit theft-related and other crimes is landing on President Trump’s desk after the House approved the Senate version of the legislation Wednesday.

The House will vote on an amended version of the Laken Riley Act on Wednesday, two weeks after it initially passed the bill.
