Firefighters continue to gain ground in their fight against the 39,111-acre Line Fire, which reached 49% containment Tuesday morning.

Charges were filed Thursday against the man suspected of starting the Line Fire burning in San Bernardino County. The massive blaze grew by nearly 1,000 acres overnight but officials say that weather conditions have helped slow its spread.

A Norco man accused of deliberately igniting the 39,000-acre Line fire that forced thousands of residents of Highland and the San Bernardino Mountains to flee pleaded not guilty to nine felony arson counts on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Cal Fire said about four structures were damaged and one was destroyed based on the damage assessments so far.

Line Fire initially started 6:33 p.m. Sep. 5 in San Bernardino County. It has burned 39,232 acres after being active for 15 days. A crew of 3,073 firefighters has been working on site and they managed to contain 57% of the fire as of Friday evening. The fire is suspected to have been started deliberately.

Cal Fire officials have publicly asked people to stop flying drones over fires, which they say severely impact their ability to do their jobs.

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. — The Line Fire, which grew slightly overnight to 60 square miles (155 square kilometers) in the San Bernardino Mountains, was 36% contained Sunday.

Firefighters say drones are interfering with their efforts putting out the Line Fire, which burned through tens of thousands of acres in San Bernardino County after breaking out earlier this month. Rick Montanez reports from the Inland Empire.
