The mayor of the French town where a man for over a decade brought strangers to rape his wife apologised on Friday for remarks that were criticised for playing down the ordeal of the victim.

Roger Arata, president of the criminal court, has decided to determine on a case-by-case basis whether or not to broadcast these images, 'with the sole aim of establishing the truth,' and to impose a closed session when the videos are shown.
