Memphis City Councilman JB Smiley told Action News 5 that the details in the lawsuit filed Monday in Shelby County Circuit Court by former Memphis Shelby County School Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins are lies.

According to the lawsuit, Feagins is suing for violations of the Tennessee Open Meetings Act. Feagins does not address the contract violations that the board found in the termination resolution in the complaint, but instead said the board violated public meetings laws through texts and private meetings.

Feagins claims in a complaint provided by her attorney Monday that the school board violated the Tennessee Open Meetings Act while terminating her contract. She alleges that school board members privately discussed firing her for months ahead of her official ousting in January.
