Knight's Choice won the 164th running of the Melbourne Cup in a bruising result for punters on Tuesday, the rank outsider storming down the final straight to edge Japanese stayer Warp Speed in a photo finish.

The Australia-trained gelding Knight's Choice has won the 164th running of Australia's premier horse race the Melbourne Cup at odds of 80-1. The unfancied five-year-old was well back turning for home in the two mile handicap at the Flemington racecourse.

Knight's Choice has won Australia's famous Melbourne Cup, in a dramatically close race which went down to the final few metres. It was Irish jockey Robbie Dolan's first time in the event, but the second win for New Zealand horse trainer Sheila Laxon.
