Students have described the moment their school bus carrying more than 40 people ran off the road and crashed in Sydney.

A Mashpee, Massachusetts school bus driver crashed into a tree Monday morning after suffering an apparent medical episode while transporting 26 students to school.

A year 12 student has grabbed the wheel of a bus in an attempt to steer it to safety after the driver suffered a medical episode.

All students have been taken off the bus and were assessed by paramedics, Fire and Rescue New South Wales said.
