Mitch Marner was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Marner, who could have become an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday, signed an eight-year, $96 million contract with Toronto before the trade. It has an average annual value of $12 million.

“You want to be in a place where you want to win,” Marner said. “That’s the whole goal of why we do this, you want to hoist that Stanley Cup. This team has shown that they can do it. I’m lucky enough now to hopefully bring another piece in to help bring it back here.”

The Golden Knights are rolling the dice on Mitch Marner. The Vegas hockey team pulled off a deal with the Maple Leafs to acquire Marner in a sign-and-trade that gave the hockey star an eight-year deal worth $12 million per season before shipping him off to Sin City, according to multiple reports.
