The Pakistan army said on Thursday that four of its soldiers were killed in a firefight with militants near the northwestern border with Afghanistan. Five Islamist militants were also killed, it said.

Pakistani authorities say three soldiers and eight militants were killed after security forces backed by military helicopters raided a hideout in a former stronghold of insurgents in a restive province bordering Afghanistan.
