Nine days after settling a strike that cost the company billions, airplane manufacturer Boeing announced that it plans to cut 10% of its workforce and will start sending out layoff notices this week.

Boeing says it will be several weeks before it fully resumes building passenger planes, as factory workers return following a strike that lasted nearly two months.

Boeing Co. delivered 14 jetliners in October, its lowest monthly total since November 2020, as a strike by the company’s largest union hamstrung its operations.

The strike began Sept. 13 when more than 94% of workers voting rejected an offer of 25% over four years. The union rejected another contract offer in October.

Boeing said on Wednesday it is issuing layoff notices starting this week to workers impacted by a broader plan by the heavily indebted planemaker to cut 17,000 jobs, or 10% of its global workforce. U.

After striking for almost two months, workers will return to factory floors in the Pacific Northwest, but must ensure safety procedures are followed as it begins building 737 jetliners.
