Texas lawmakers meet again Friday, when the Republican majority in the Senate could give final approval to their map.

The California State Assembly has passed Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’s redistricting plan, a day after Republicans in the Texas House passed new maps of their own. In California, the state Assembly and Senate on Thursday are taking up a trio of bills that will allow for a special election to pass a constitutional amendment to replace the state’s existing congressional maps through 2030.
