France's defence ministry has approached Renault with a view to helping to manufacture drones, the automaker said on Sunday, after the ministry last week floated the idea French companies could help with production in Ukraine.

President Donald Trump wants to counter the threats drones pose to national security under new rules released Friday, while also aiming to make it possible for Americans to fly faster than the speed of sound and expedite the development of the flying cars of the future.

A House committee will vote this week on a bipartisan bill that seeks to boost the use of drones in fighting wildfires. The Science, Space and Technology Committee on Wednesday will mark up the “ Advanced Capabilities for Emergency Response Operations (ACERO) Act ,” H.R. 390.

President Trump also eased restrictions on commercial drone flights and called for the revival of supersonic flights for nonmilitary aircraft.
