A California city is scrapping a contract it had with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security to house federal immigration detainees amid clashes between law enforcement and protesters in Los Angeles.

The city acknowledged that the change could make it more difficult for some families to visit detained loved ones.

The National Guard was deployed to Los Angeles County as anti-ICE protests escalated over the weekend. The unrest is centered in the city of Paramount, California, where rioters clashed with federal authorities,
