A garbage truck that got stuck in a sinkhole with exposed utility lines led to a large portion of downtown Omaha losing power for several hours Thursday while workers removed the vehicle.

A garbage truck crashed into a sinkhole in downtown Omaha on Thursday morning.The crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. near 16th and Farnam streets.

This sinkhole comes as repairs continue on sewer lines along 33rd Street south of Cass Street, where another large sinkhole developed in May 2024. Leo Williams has lived in Midtown Omaha for decades.
