Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirms Washington, D.C. arrival ahead of meeting with President Trump and European leaders to force Russia into peace agreement.

President Trump will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington on Monday — a meeting that could play out differently than their last one in the nation’s capital back in February.

With a chance to make a better second impression in the Oval Office, gratitude diplomacy was front and center for Zelenskyy. In addition to thanking the president six times, Zelenskyy extended gratitude to Melania Trump for personally writing to Russian President Vladimir Putin to think about the Ukrainian children and urge peace.

The European political heavyweights expected in Washington are Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.

President Trump is working to coordinate a meeting​ between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after Monday's talks.

Talks between Trump and Zelenskyy are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Kyiv time on Aug. 18 at the White House, following Trump’s recent meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska. At 10 p.m.,

Zelenskyy and Trump expressed hopes that talks with Ukrainian and European leaders at the White House could lead to trilateral talks with Putin to bring an end to his war on Ukraine.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, along with other European leaders, will travel to Washington to attend a joint meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday 18 August.
