President-elect Donald Trump has privately encouraged Vivek Ramaswamy to consider an appointment to the US Senate seat recently vacated by Vice President-elect JD Vance if offered the position by Ohio Gov.

Gov. Mike DeWine must pick someone to replace Vice President-elect JD Vance, who resigned his Senate seat last week.

Flags have been lowered across Ohio to honor former President Jimmy Carter, who recently died. Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered flags to be raised on Jan. 20 for Inauguration Day and then lowered again.

The House speaker has reportedly bowed to Donald Trump in deciding to remove Mike Turner from his committee leadership spot.

Vance officially resigned from the post last week. Under Ohio law, DeWine was singularly tasked with appointing his replacement. Husted will operate as senator until 2026, when a special election will determine who will serve in the role until the term expires in 2029.
