The Boston Bruins announced they have assigned forward Matt Poitras to their AHL affiliate Providence Bruins. Poitras has one goals and four points in 14 games this season.

BOSTON -- In a bit of a surprising move, the Boston Bruins have assigned Matt Poitras to Providence of the AHL.

It should come as no surprise that the young pivot has gone through some growing pains this season, but the Bruins are also inviting plenty of risk by shipping him out.

Players like David Krejci and Brad Marchand spent a year and a half in the minors,” said Bruins' coach Jim Montgomery. Now it's Matt Poitras' turn to do the same.
