Germany's Social Democrats (SPD) on Saturday confirmed Chancellor Olaf Scholz as the party's top candidate for February's parliamentary elections. Only a few delegates bucked the majority, who overwhelmingly supported Scholz's bid to return to the Chancellery in a vote by show of hands at the party's conference in Berlin.

Incumbent German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for a politics for "ordinary people" during a party congress. His Social Democratic Party (SPD) is currently polling at third place.
