The government shutdown deadline is less than a week away. The Republican Conference’s latest plan is to pass a clean stopgap bill to keep federal agencies funded through Dec. 20.

After a controversial measure requiring proof of citizenship to vote – pushed by conservative Republicans – was dropped, bipartisan negotiations began in earnest, with leadership agreeing to extend government funding into mid-December.

The new plan to avert a government shutdown comes after the House rejected Speaker Johnson's opening gambit in the funding fight last week.
