Less than a week after announcing that it would replace local weathercasters at its local TV stations, Allen Media Group decided on Thursday to scrap its plans after viewer outcry.

It has been an emotional time for meteorologists at nearly two dozen Allen Media Group television stations across the country. Deep cuts at the company have forced all local meteorologists to be eliminated or reassigned and replaced by a feed beamed to individual stations from The Weather Channel.

After Allen Media Group decided to lay off all local meteorologists company-wide last week, some of the local meteorologists will reportedly stay — including those at WSIL-TV 3.

As part of the Allen Media Group owned by media personality Byron Allen, AMB owns and operates 28 TV stations nationwide, covering all four commercial networks. AMG acquired The Weather Channel, part of The Weather Group, in a deal worth $300 million in 2018 and the “groundbreaking format” has been in Beta for several years, according to AMG.
