Hurricane Erin exploded in strength to a Category 5 storm in the Caribbean before weakening on Saturday, the National Hurricane Center said.

Forecast models show Erin has the potential to become a major Category 4 hurricane with winds reaching at least 130 mph on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Erin’s center is expected to move near or just north of the northern Leeward Islands over the weekend, according to the NHC.
