Nov 12 (Reuters) - Strengthening winds and bone-dry conditions were hindering firefighters working to gain control of a stubborn wildfire burning in a forested stretch along the New York-New Jersey state border about 50 miles (80 km) northwest of New York City.

The Jennings Creek fire has burned nearly 5,000 acres as New Jersey sees its driest conditions in 120 years, according to the state’s Forest Fire Service. Fire departments across New Jersey battled at least a dozen fires Wednesday morning.

The Jennings Creek fire is currently burning across 3,500 acres, officials said, and is expected to grow to over 5,000 acres.

The Jennings Creek Fire in New Jersey has burned nearly 4,300 acres. It's about half contained as firefighters have performed controlled burns, getting rid of dry vegetation that could otherwise fuel the blaze.
