Harrison Ford’s Han Solo is one of the most iconic movie characters ever, but the actor has made it clear over the years that he doesn’t want to be solely defined by his roles in the best Star Wars movies.

Blade Runner follows Deckard (Ford), a Blade Runner who must pursue and terminate four escaped Replicants who stole a ship in space and have returned to Earth to find their creator. Elsewhere in the GQ video, the Gladiator II filmmaker also opened up about his vision of “inventing a new world” with the sci-fi film.

In a conversation with GQ, Ridley Scott shared that the big guns behind Blade Runner seemingly took a little convincing when it came to casting Harrison Ford.

Although Harrison Ford is synonymous with multiple franchises and countless memorable performances, he wasn't always such a household name.

"Ford had not been given much of a chance, particularly since Star Wars, to show what he was made of," Deeley is quoted as saying in Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner. "Both Ridley and I felt Deckard's curious mixture of emerging sensitivity and hard-boiled bureaucracy would offer an excellent chance for Harrison to do that."

Blade Runner director Ridley Scott has recalled a moment that saw those financing the 1982 sci-fi classic questioning the decision to cast Harrison Ford as lead – just a few years after he appeared in Star Wars.

Harrison Ford has featured in some of the most successful films ever in cinema history, including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Blade Runner films. However, when Blade Runner filmmaker Ridley Scott pitched Ford as the lead actor to the film's financiers,
