The Legion Go S is a streamlined PC gaming handheld and the first with SteamOS since Steam Deck; the Go 2 is a full sequel. The Legion Pro 7i gaming laptop also gets a silicon boost.

The Steam Deck is no longer the only SteamOS-based gaming handheld on the market. A more expensive Windows version of the Legion Go S will be available first.

Lenovo is trying an experiment. In May, it will officially become the very first company outside of Valve to ship a handheld gaming PC with the Steam Deck’s wonderfully pick-up-and-play SteamOS instead of Microsoft Windows.

Now, Lenovo is launching a new PC gaming handheld at CES 2025, and it finally does away with the worst part of the PC gaming handheld experience. The Lenovo Legion Go S will be the only other handheld besides the Steam Deck to have a SteamOS license, giving you a Steam Deck-like experience on much more modern hardware.

At CES 2025, Lenovo announced a brand new handheld PC, the Legion Go S, and it runs Valve’s premiere operating system. The Go S has SteamOS pre-installed, and features an 8-inch screen with variable refresh rate (VRR), Hall effect joysticks, adjustable trigger switches, and other alluring traits not found in any model of the Steam Deck.

Following months of rumors, the new Lenovo Legion Go S has finally arrived, and I'm pretty hyped to see there's a SteamOS version. While I wouldn't go as far to call the laptop maker's new handheld a Steam Deck, it should help normalize PC operating systems that are actually build for portable play.

The Lenovo Legion Go was already one of the best handheld gaming PCs since it came out in 2023, but at CES Lenovo has unveiled two more handhelds at CES 2025, a lightweight Legion Go S, and a prototype of the much-awaited Lenovo Legion Go 2.

Lenovo has announced the Legion Go S, which will become the first third-party SteamOS handheld PC when it launches this May.

Lenovo used CES as a launchpad to refresh a multitude of gaming products, including new handhelds, laptops, desktops, displays, and accessories.

Lenovo's Legion Go PC gaming handheld has been a noticeable part of the growth of the entire sector since the Steam Deck first ignited things a few years ago. It was (and remains) a bit of a beast, with a set of impressive specs and some interesting detachable controllers that pack in some tricks.

Lenovo is already announcing one new handheld (or two depending on how you’re counting) at CES 2025. However, that isn’t stopping the company from looking ahead to its next portable gaming device by teasing an early prototype of the Legion Go 2.
