Linda McMahon's nomination to serve as President Donald Trump's education secretary has advanced out of a Senate committee, bringing her closer to leading an agency the Republican president wants to abolish.

McMahon, who led Trump’s Small Business Administration during his first term, was approved in a party-line vote by all 12 Republicans on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions

The Republican Senate committee chair said McMahon laid out a “strong vision,” but Democrats said they couldn’t support someone who would dismantle the Education Department.
