Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic responded to NBA coaching legend Don Nelson’s trade criticism on Monday morning. Doncic, 26, took to his Instagram story with a four-word message for Nelson, 85, just hours after Nelson won the 2025 Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award on Sunday.
Nelson received the award while wearing Doncic’s signature Jordan brand sneakers in protest of the Mavs’ trade of Luka Doncic. Nelson, who referred to Doncic as “a dear friend,” called the trade “a tremendous mistake,” and explained that it was the teachings of NBA legend Red Auerbach that made him oppose the trade.
