If you haven’t yet come to terms with this month’s catastrophic election results, you may currently be using sports as an escape hatch. This, of course, has always been one of sports’ primary utilities: Whatever your worries and stresses, you can lose yourself in a silly game for a few hours and forget the real world for a while.

Soccer star Christian Pulisic, UFC champ Jon Jones, and several NFL players have brought the president-elect's viral dance to the sports world.

The dance is an imitation of president-elect Donald Trump’s moves during a Nov. 4-5 campaign rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was Trump’s final stop before Election Day at Van Andel Arena in Downtown Grand Rapids. The rally began the night of Nov. 4 and lasted until well past midnight into the morning of the election.

In the end zone, on the soccer pitch and on the golf course, athletes are paying tribute to President-elect Trump with the “Trump Dance.” Why it matters: After Trump’s decisive victory, athletes and other celebs seem more willing to publicly associate themselves with the president-elect — even if the dance is more of a pop culture phenomenon than a political endorsement.

Some athletes have celebrated wins in recent weeks by recreating a dance often performed by President-elect Donald Trump at rallies—simply pumping both fists back and forth—though it’s unclear if it’s explicitly pro-Trump.
