My grandfather was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment almost two years ago and I still have moments of doubt about his diagnosis. Not because he doesn't have dementia - it's incredibly clear now that he absolutely does - but more because we naturally want to hold on to hope. I also have to consistently remind my mother, who lives across the country and only talks to him on the phone when he's coherent enough to hold a conversation, that he, unfortunately, won't get better. This won't pass.
