Classic silent comedian Buster Keaton shows off his ability to act without speaking. He is constantly being interrupted by the narrator of the commercial. It builds and builds, and then at the last part of the commercial, he still doesn’t get what he wants. This is a classic construction of a clown gag disguised as a commercial (or more accurately, a commercial wearing the dress of a clown gag). Either way, it’s beautifully executed. #clowntheory #comedytheory #rulesofcomedy #dissectingthefunny

This Day In Buster…November 7th 1963… ‘It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World’ is released. The ensemble comedy was cut mercilessly by United Artists for the cinemas but was lovingly restored in 2014 into as near the intended original edit as possible. Buster Keaton, in his late 60s, dashing about in the exact same fashion he did in his 20s - no edit required! | Buster Keaton

#MovieMonday ‘Free & Easy’, 1930 We challenge you to find a movie moment where Buster Keaton looked even more melancholy than this. The musical was a jaunty affair overall, but he was cast as the sad clown which was never really his character. | Buster Keaton
