When drawing ears that have an upright position, I prefer to draw the skin portion first and then add any fur on top. I find this create a more natural look with more depth as it's how it naturally would be. To ensure the depth is achieved, it's really important to have the base foundation dark enough otherwise the details on top won't show up properly.
