On June 1, 1905, nearly 40,000 people turned out for the opening day of Portland’s only “World’s Fair.” The Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition attracted over 1.5 million visitors and is credited with establishing Portland as an important West Coast city. Today, the ornate buildings are long gone, but photos provide a glimpse of what it was like to stroll through those elaborate fairgrounds 120 years ago.
